fan, white silk satin folding fan with delicate hand-painted design of pink and blue flowers and one butterfly; carved and pieced bone sticks; cream silk back; white ostrich feather tips at top of fan; metal handle with metal ring at top held in place with mother-of-pearl studs; c.1886. Funds for conservation and photography for the hand-held fan collection provided by a generous grant from the Fan Association of North America (FANA). |
