This undated scrapbook was originally housed in a three-ring plastic binder with Avery sleeves and transferred to transparent archival quality sleeves in May 2024. It begins with a full-size black-and-white photograph titled, "Alex M. Lesem M.D. - First San Diego County Health Director 1924-49 - Lovingly compiled for 'Unc' by Marilyn Ann Miller Webster." Contents of sleeve inserts consist primarily of newspaper clippings and unlabeled b&w photos of Dr. Lesem's colleagues and social events. Items of note include a July 1949 newsletter completely devoted to Dr. Lesem and his accomplishments from the San Diego City and County Health Department, and a signed original certificate of a resolution from the City of San Diego from Mayor Harley E. Knox and City Council members, accompanied by full text of the Resolution No. 94722. |
