Scope & Content |
This large format, spiral-bound scrapbook, apparently compiled by Cleo Hill, consists of clippings from San Diego newspapers and family photos from 1911-1941. The scrapbook begins with photos and accounts of Herbert Hill's police career and grows to encompass a wide range of Cleo Hill's family and friends in San Diego and Kansas. A memorial program of Detective Hill's funeral service at Greenwood Cemetery is also included (page 27). Some items have handwritten captions and/or dates; others do not. Many clippings are of a general interest nature. Two file folders accompany the scrapbook. The first consists of a 3-page handwritten inventory of scrapbook contents compiled in 1995 by Ruth Milburn, San Diego Historical Society. The second folder contains a 2-page printout of "The Story of the Uri Hill Family in Early El Cajon", several loose clippings from the San Diego Union and El Cajon Valley News (1950), and a short typewritten note regarding the overall donation from Pliny Castanien, Historian of the San Diego Police Department. |
