The scrapbook is entirely composed of news clippings from 1924. Many are full or half-page advertisements from Portland Cement and its 20s-era subsidiaries throughout southern California. The majority of business-focused articles concentrate on the development boon in Mission Beach: street paving, housing and resort construction, bidding processes and local government approvals. Some articles are from the San Diego Union, others are from National City, San Francisco, and Riverside. Most lack a source attribution. An undated, 6-page handwritten list of article titles with page numbers was done by the San Diego Historical Society and is included. |
