Scope & Content |
Two separate but related volumes form this scrapbook. The first is a small blue softcover pamphlet of 59 pages, titled, "Delta Sigma: an Historical Review: Being a Chronicle of the Delta Sigma Fraternity from Its Inception in 1897 to the Present year 1929". The pamphlet chronologically traces the history of the fraternity and its growth. The San Diego chapter is mentioned on pages 44 and 57. The second volume is a large red album with an embossed gold emblem of the Greek symbol for Delta Sigma on the cover. The scrapbook begins with a 1937 certificate of induction for Gordon Moser with corporate seal, followed by a 2-page typed membership list as of February 15, 1996, for members and induction dates ranging from 1925-1950 (with keyed symbols for deceased). This is followed by several labeled black-and-white photos of chapter officers from the 1930s with the Delta Sigma banner in the background. Documentation then skips to the 1970-1990s and consists of labeled color photos of reunion events, typed narratives, flyers with announcements of the annual "Tom and Jerry Party", menus from the 1990s with member signatures, two "dance bids" and membership cards dated 1929 and 1931, and two pages of newspaper articles about chapter members and activities, dated 1970 and 1980. A February 12, 1996, article from The San Diego Union titled "San Diego Hall of Famers" includes member Ralph Smith, inducted into the Hall of Fame 1982 (Track & Field). The last reunion photo dated 1997 notes dwindling numbers of members. |
