Leda's father, Abraham, was the founder of what is one of San Diego's oldest firms, Klauber-Wangenheim Co. Coming from a very creative family, Leda became interested in art and studied at the Pratt Institute in New York and later with Charles Reiffel in San Diego. Her interest led her to collect Japanese block prints and she also became a member of the San Diego Art Guild. In 1923 she designed and had built a house for herself in La Jolla. She was one of the founder of the Los Surenos art center in Old Town which later moved into the Spanish Village in Balboa Park after World War II. |
