"Note: Publication of this book was considerably delayed by a fire in the Arts & Crafts Press which destroyed some of the plates & material. Editor J.C. Safley, San Diego Union, was the general editor of the book, and the author of much of it. He was a Director of S.D.H.S. Lost his life in a plane crash at Monterey, Mexico in October 1953. B.F.D."
