(Art): One ink and watercolor drawing on paper of a Spanish presidio dragoon soldier with a circular shield and red, two-pointed vertical banner or flag. The dragoon soldier is most likely an office, because he is outfitted in boots with spurs, tan leather leggings and sleeveless coat, blue breeches and waistcoat (waistcoat has red trim and red cuffs), and a black flat-brimmed hat. Soldier has a sword attached at proper left hip. Next to him is a circular leather shield with the Coat of Arms of the Crown of Castile, and a crown on top, at center. Above the shield is a pink and red vertical hanging banner with two points on the bottom edge that also has the Coat of Arms of the Crown of Castile at center. Along the bottom of the painting is script writting that reads, "The Cuera Dragoon, 1730-1830." At bottom right is written "FFL." which stands for artist Francisco Ferrer Llull. On the reverse of the painting at top center is written in pencil, "Francisco Ferrer Llull / Uraguay". At top left of the reverse side is a black, oval stamp with lettering inside that reads "SERRA MUSEUM / SEP 2 1965". In blue ink within the oval is written "#541". |
