Description |
(Art): One ink and watercolor painting on paper depicting Junípero Serra with a tower in the background and the Coat of Arms of the Balearic Islands in the top left corner. Serra is wearing a brown robe with a white bead or rope belt and has a tonsure hairstyle (shaved head on top), typical of Franciscan friars. In the background is a beige building with a domed tower. In the top left corner of the painting is the Coat of Arms of Aragon which is a gold and red vertically stripped field with a blue diagonal and a jewel encrusted gold crown above. Along the bottom of the painting is script writting that reads, "Frey Junipero Serra de Petra (Mallorca), fundador de las Misiones de / California, muerto en la de San Carlos el 28 de Agosto del 1784." (Frey Junipero Serra of Petra (Majorca), founder of the California Missions, died the one of San Carlos the 28th of August of 1784). At bottom right is written "FFL." which are the artists', Francisco Ferrer Llull, initals. |
